Before The Ships Came is a cinematic Gospel Afro House journey through Africa’s deep and often overlooked Christian history. Blending hypnotic Afro House rhythms, evocative melodies and soulful, ancestral vocals, the track reflects on the Christian traditions that took root across parts of Africa centuries before European colonialism.
From the early Christian communities of Egypt and the intellectual legacy of Alexandria, to the fourth-century Kingdom of Aksum and the ancient Christian kingdoms of Nubia, the song explores a history preserved in manuscripts, churches, inscriptions, coins and generations of faith.
Before The Ships Came is more than a historical reflection. It is a meditation on memory — on the stories that survived, the histories that were forgotten, and the enduring presence of God through generations of change.
Before The Ships Came — is a reminder that colonialism changed Africa’s history, but it did not begin Africa’s relationship with God & Christianity.
